Becoming A Photographer

For as long as I can remember, I have loved children. Babies especially! Yet, I never imagined I would make my way into photography. (Actually, I’m a licensed veterinary technician and had planned to go to vet school before life threw me a few curve balls!) After having my own son in December of 2005, I developed a passion for capturing every piece of his developing personality and growth on film (well, digital, really…I never shot film!). As he got bigger I outgrew my little Cybershot point and shoot camera, which I loved for so long. It was time to upgrade to something faster that gave me more control.

And so I read and studied and read some more. I didn’t want to spend money on something that I was unable to use. All of that studying just drew me further into the world of photography. I spent hours learning about how to “see the light” and figuring out the controls to my new camera. I loved it…every minute! And so my passion grew from photographing my son (who eventually got tired of mommy’s camera!) to photographing other children (mostly friends and family).

It’s been over 3 years now, working on my skills and learning all sorts of new ideas and techniques from other photographers, while raising my son (who is almost 4!) and enjoying life. Photography has become such a large part of who I am and what I do, that I couldn’t imagine things being any different. I love babies and children, and knowing that the memories of how things were at that moment in time will be preserved for years to come. The early days pass so quickly…I’ve learned from experience! I still look at my little guy and wonder where my baby went.

I feel honored to be able to capture these moments for you, too.
